Transitions Program

Freshman Year

Purpose

The AACRC's (African American Cultural Resource Center) Transitions Program is meant to help and guide incoming African American students to become more successful and utilize the University of Cincinnati's resources. During my time in the Transitions Program, we focused on our abilities to communicate and represent the changes we wanted to see in our communities and school. This allowed for growth professionally and academically. Participating in the Transitions Program also provided each freshman with a mentor and a network of other professionals to reach out to.

Reflection

During my time in the Transitions Program, I learned more about myself and my skills more than anything. This program was my first connection to campus and my peers so, I am grateful that I took advantage of it at the time. This program facilitates weekly meetings which helped me explore these new connections and improve my skills. These meetings were led by our mentors, who we spent the whole year working with, getting to know, and learning from. From my time in the Transition's program, I especially become more comfortable with reaching out to others, being a voice for a team, and creatively collaborating with others. I have tremendous respect for the amount of work and commitment that the AACRC focuses on this program, so I will continue to have connections with the center and recommend it to future freshmen.

Transition Program Diploma

This is my Transition Program Diploma which we earn by meeting the requirements throughout the year and staying active in the program and community. This is the main physical object that I gained from my time in this program and to me it signifies my dedication to my growth and new vulnerability this year.
